Substrate Culture Systems
Hanging Bag Technique
In sack culture long cylinder shaped, white (interior black) UV treated polyethylene “sacks” suspended vertically (See Figure 14.17). This technique is also known as “verti-grow” technique. The sacks are filled with a peat-vermiculite mixture or any other substrate such as a coco coir mix. The bottom end is tied to prevent the medium from falling through, and the top end is tied to constrain the medium into a sausage-like form. The sacks, supported by the greenhouse superstructure or other supports, are spaced 32 inces (80 cm) apart within the rows, and the rows are spaced at four feet (1.2 m).
