Greenhouse Management
Glossary
G
GERMINATION – The sprouting of a seed and the commencement of growth.
GIBBERELLINS – Are plant hormones that regulate growth and influence various developmental processes, including stem elongation, germination, dormancy, flowering, sex expression, enzyme induction, and leaf and fruit senescence.
GLAZING – Greenhouse glazing is simply the coating that is applied to the outside of the structure to form the weatherproof seal while still allowing an adequate amount of sunlight into the building to allow the plants to grow. Glazing materials include glass, polycarbonate, and plastic film (Polyethylene).
GRADE – The degree and direction of slope on an area of ground.

GREENHOUSE – A structure used for growing plants that has a transparent covering and an artificial heat source.
GROWING MEDIUM – A mixture of several materials in which plants are grown.
GROWTH REGULATORS – Plant growth regulators (also called plant hormones) are numerous chemical substances that profoundly influence the growth and differentiation of plant cells, tissues and organs.
GYPSUM – Calcium sulfate used to supply calcium and sulfur and to improve sodic soils.
